Kurdish dialects in focus at Manchester and in Hudds

Last Tuesday, faculty member Rebecca Woods along with PhD students Mahmood Ibrahim and Soran Al-Wandawi headed over to Manchester for the launch event of the Database of Kurdish Dialects.

It is a fascinating resource that will not only benefit Mahmood as he looks to apply Critical Stylistics tools to the Kurdish poetry of Sherko Bekas, but the promotion of Kurdish language and culture more widely. Incidentally, Mahmood is also our informant for our undergraduate Field Linguistics module this year, so lots of Huddersfield linguists are getting to grips with the Sorani dialect of Kurdish. Keep an eye out on the blog for a report from one of our Field linguists, telling us more about the module and what they're learning.

Zor supas for having us, Manchester!
