Understanding multilingualism in Kirklees
Following on from last week's trip to Bradford Metropolitan District Council, Kate Bellamy and I headed to Kirklees Council to speak to their Languages Team about multilinguals in the Kirklees area. In addition to making us a wonderful cup of Yorkshire tea, Abid Hussain educated us on the differences between Pahari, Potwari and Punjabi, and told us all about how interpreters are deployed in Kirklees to assist speakers of languages from Roma to Burmese and back again.
We're so excited to be working in such a linguistically diverse area of the UK, and we're more convinced than ever that Kirklees and Bradford are ideal places for finding out more about UK multilinguals.
