Huddersfield representation at "English: Shared Futures"
This week in Newcastle a "major conference across the discipline" of English, English: Shared Futures, has brought together scholars, teachers, enthusiasts and more in English Literature, Language and Linguistics. So naturally, Huddersfield linguists were in on the action:
- Wednesday: Rebecca Woods, with colleagues Sam Hellmuth and Ann Taylor from the University of York, discussed Investigating English: Translating Linguistic Research for the Secondary English Classroom, an impact project aimed at helping teachers to integrate up-to-the-minute linguistic research and methods into teaching
- Thursday: Dan McIntyre, Lesley Jeffries and Hazel Price delved into Public Linguistics and Impact, presenting three case studies in place here at Huddersfield: Babel, Language in Conflict and Language Unlocked.
- Also Thursday: Dan McIntyre chaired the session on Tomorrow’s English Today: problems in predicting the linguistic future
