MA by Research funding opportunity: come and study with us!
Linguistics and Modern Languages at the University of Huddersfield invites applications for an MA by Research studentship starting in September 2018 in the fields of syntax and multilingualism (with preference given to studies of heritage languages). The studentship includes a fee waiver at the UK/EU level and a stipend of approximately £14,600 for the year.
The successful candidate, in addition to undertaking their own research project, will also act as Research Assistant on the Multilingual West Yorkshire project, which aims to learn more about the languages spoken in West Yorkshire and the people who speak them (see project outline). The Research Assistant duties will include:
- Sociolinguistic questionnaire design
- Administration and marketing of the questionnaire
- Facilitating access to and communication with potential end-users
- Initial data analysis
The scholarship therefore includes an additional budget of £2,000 for travel and other research expenses related to participation in the Multilingual West Yorkshire project over and above the stipend.
The project duties will be undertaken in collaboration with the Multilingual West Yorkshire project lead, Dr Rebecca Woods.
Applicants must hold a first class or upper second (or equivalent) undergraduate degree in linguistics.
