BA (Lancaster) MSc (York)
Research Assistant in Forensic Speech Science
Sula joined the University of Huddersfield in February 2016 as a Research Assistant in Forensic Speech Science. The role involves creating and developing the ESRC funded West Yorkshire Regional English Database (WYRED); which will become the largest forensically-realistic spoken corpora containing Northern British English accents.
She previously worked at Lancaster University as a Knowledge Exchange Support Officer, providing central financial administration support for cross-departmental externally funded projects.
Sula has an MSc in Forensic Speech Science from the University of York and a BA (Hons) Linguistics from Lancaster University.
Research and Scholarship
Sula’s research interests are in forensic speech science and more widely in phonetics, sociolinguistics and sociophonetics. Within forensic speech science, she is specifically interested in the definition(s) of and the access to relevant background population statistics, in order to calculate likelihood ratios and express conclusions in forensic voice comparison cases.
She is keen to pursue cross-disciplinary collaborations.
